Returning from the second cruisade in 1149, following a shipwreck, the count Galeran de Meulan promises to build an Abbey. Princess Mathilde, Guillaume Le Conquerant's small daughter, also promised to build an Abbey. On February 18th, 1156, Adrien IV gave investiture to the Abbey attached to the one of Mortemer. Richard de Blosseville was the first of the forty-two monks who followed one another during 635 years. In 1437, The English army destroyed the Valasse's Abbey during Revolutionnary period in 1989 the monks were dispersed. The church changed into a barrack, was destroyed in 1810. In 1831, the Fauquets Lemaître, Industrialists family, bought the building. It was changed into army, veterinary hospital, cheese entreprise. Today the Abbey of Valasse is a park open to the public.
